Located in western Dekalb County, Brookhaven is home to just over 49,000 residents. The growing city has a number of vastly different neighborhoods and districts including; Historic Brookhaven, Brookhaven Village, Lynwood Park, Peachtree Road, North Brookhaven, Buford Highway and Lenox Park. Only a ten-mile drive from the center of Atlanta, Brookhaven is a beautifully developing city that remains dedicated to its strong sense of community.
There are five public elementary schools situated in Brookhaven; Ashford Park Elementary, Montclair Elementary, Montgomery Elementary, Kittredge middle magnet school and Woodward Elementary. Cross Keys High School and Chamblee Charter High School are the two public secondary schools that serve the city. And there are three private schools in Brookhaven; Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School, St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal School, and Marist School. There is also the Oglethorpe University and Georgia State University’s Brookhaven satellite campus for the Robinson College of Business MBA program. The city recently became home to the Brookhaven Innovation Academy in August of 2016 which is a public charter school.
With over ten parks located in the northeastern suburb of Atlanta, there is no shortage of outdoor recreation. The parks offer basketball and tennis courts, soccer and baseball fields, swimming pools, picnic areas, playgrounds, lakes and nature trails. For a fun and relaxing day of shopping, head over to one of the city’s large shopping centers. The Town Brookhaven and Northeast Plaza are just two of the local malls filled with various shops. Residents of Brookhaven can enjoy an arrangement of community activities happening all year-round. One of the city’s most exciting events is the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival. The festival includes a 5K Race + 1K Walk, Arts and Crafts Marketplace, a Pet World, the Classic Car Show, live music and delicious food. Another great activity available to entire the community is the monthly Parent’s Night Out. Parents with children ages 5-12 may drop off their kids on a Friday so they can enjoy a night to themselves. The kids are then provided with dinner, fun activities and games until their pickup at nine o’clock. Other Brookhaven events include Brookhaven Community Day, the Brookhaven Food Truck Roundup, Bark in the Park and It Starts in the Park 5K.
