Situated in DeKalb County, Tucker was originally developed as a railroad community and is home to just over 27,581 residents. Only 15 miles northeast from the hustle and bustle of downtown Atlanta, Tucker remains a city devoted to community involvement and economic development. Since it was identified as “DeKalb’s Area of Golden Opportunity” in the 1960s, Tucker has been the place to live and grow for many decades.
Tucker hosts outdoor events and community festivities throughout the year. Most of the activities are held on Main Street and are filled with fun for both residents and visitors. The Tucker Day celebration, Taste of Tucker, Tucker Chili Cook-Off, Tucker Cruise-In and the Farmers Market are just a few of the annual events. The Tucker Day celebration includes unique vendors, musicians, artists, food and a parade spanning Main Street.
Other outdoor activities can be enjoyed at any one of the parks in Tucker which occupy over 230 acres of land. Henderson Park, Johns’ Homestead, Kelley C. Cofer Park, Montreal Park, Peters Park, Smoke Rise Park, Tucker Nature Reserve and the Tucker Recreational Center make up the city’s nature-filled parks. The walking trails, creeks, lakes, sporting fields, playgrounds and swimming pool offer residents and visitors boundless recreation options. After a long day of exploring the city, stop by one of Tucker’s delicious local-dining spots. The possibilities consist of American, Southern, Sports Bar & Grills, Asian, German, Greek, New Orleans, Italian, Irish, Indian and countless Mexican style restaurants.
Served by the DeKalb County School District, Tucker has six elementary schools in the area including; Evansdale Elementary School, Brockett Elementary School, Idlewood Elementary School, Livsey Elementary School, Midvale Elementary School and Smoke Rise Charter Elementary School. The two public middle schools available to the Tucker residents are Tucker Middle School and Stone Mountain Middle School. Tucker High School is the only high school serving the city. Also located in the town is the Le Cordon Blue College of Culinary Arts Atlanta.
